理想的變速箱
【日經BP社報導】 1年前的2006年秋季，《日經汽車技術》曾推出變速箱特輯。特輯的焦點是CVT（無段變速箱）的勢力範圍在自動變速箱領域擴展到哪為止。然而，當時並未顯山露水的第3類自動變速箱，如今卻出現了迅速崛起的勢頭，這種變速箱就是DCT（Dual Clutch Transmission）。
DCT是一種把手動變速箱的變速工作自動化的“AMT（Automated Manual Transmission）”變速箱，其特點是組合了兩組離合器和兩套變速檔。兩個離合器分別與1速、3速、5速等奇數檔和2速、4速、6速等偶數檔相連，通過離合器之間的切換，完成偶數檔和奇數檔的快速切換。
這種自動變速箱于2003年首次由德國大眾在量產車中配備，該公司稱其為“DSG（Direct Shift Gearbox）”。此後4年間，沒有一家廠商追隨大眾。但是時至今日，DCT卻又突然有了普及的勢頭。除三菱汽車和日產汽車今年秋季將上市的新款車的採用外，在海外，福特（Ford）集團和克萊斯勒（Chrysler）也在擴大對DCT的投資。各DCT廠商預測，到2015年之前，DCT將佔到全球變速箱市場的15～20％。
DCT在現在成為焦點的原因有二。其一，與配備變矩器的普通AT（自動變速箱）和CVT相比，沒有滑轉現象，在踩油門時有直接的加速感。其二，變矩器沒有滑轉損失，而且採用了傳遞效率高於行星齒輪的正齒輪，因此燃效高於普通AT。與CVT的直接比較數據目前還沒有，但是，CVT在高速行駛中會出現金屬帶摩擦損失增大導致燃效降低的難題。因此，對於高速行駛機會較多的歐洲市場，DCT比CVT更加適合。
筆者以前也曾在專欄中提到過試駕大眾DSG配備車的感受：與以往AMT發澀的動作截然不同，變速非常圓滑而且迅速。雖然蠕變弱于通常的AT，但習慣了也沒什麼問題。如果在此基礎上再有好的燃效，簡直可以稱之為理想的變速箱。
令人感到擔憂的是，日本變速箱廠商在DCT的開發上落在了後面。DCT是以手動變速箱的結構為基礎，而日本著名變速箱廠商則在把開發的重點向AT和CVT轉移。日本的AT確實可以說達到了全球最高水準，但是，量產化剛剛4年的DSG已經達到了相當高的完成度。考慮到這種情況，還不能說AT現在的地位是穩定的。將於9月28日出版的《日經汽車技術》11月刊中將刊登DCT最新動態報導。希望能成為思考自動變速箱未來的參考資料。

日経Automotive Technologyはちょうど1年前の2006年秋に、変速機の特集を組みました。自動変速機の領域で、CVT（無段変速機）がどこまで勢力範囲を伸ばすかに焦点を当てたものです。しかし、そのときにあまり誌面を割かなかった第3の自動変速機が急速に広がる兆しが出てきました。それがDCT（Dual Clutch Transmission）です。
DCTは、手動変速機の変速動作を自動化した「AMT（Automated Manual Transmission）」の一種ですが、2組のクラッチと2系統に分かれたギア列を組み合わせているのが特徴です。それぞれのクラッチには1速、3速、5速といった奇数段のギアと、2速、4速、6速といった偶数段のギアがつながっていて、二つのクラッチを切り替えることで偶数段のギアと奇数段のギアの素早い切り替えを可能にしています。
この方式の自動変速機を2003年に、量産車に初めて搭載したのがドイツVolkswagen社で、同社は「DSG（Direct Shift Gearbox）」と呼んでいます。それから4年、Volkswagen社に追随するメーカーは現れませんでした。しかしここに来て、にわかにDCTが普及の兆しを見せ始めました。今秋に三菱自動車と日産自動車が発売する新型車に採用されるほか、海外でもFordグループやChrysler社がDCTへの投資を拡大しています。DCTメーカー各社は、2015年にはDCTが世界の変速機市場の15～20％を占めるようになると予測しています。
ここに来てDCTが注目されてきた理由は二つあります。一つは、トルクコンバータを持つ通常のAT（自動変速機）やCVTに比べて滑りがなく、アクセル操作に対するダイレクトな加速感を味わえること。そしてもう一つが、トルクコンバータの滑り損失がなく、また遊星歯車より伝達効率の高い平歯車を使っているため、通常のATよりも燃費が向上することです。CVTとの直接の比較データは今のところありませんが、CVTは高速域で金属ベルトの摩擦損失が増大し、燃費が悪化するという難点があります。高速走行する機会の多い欧州市場には、CVTよりも向く変速機といえるでしょう。
私も以前このブログで、Volkswagen社のDSG搭載車に試乗した経験（関連記事）について書きましたが、従来のAMTのぎくしゃくした動作とは打って変わって、非常に滑らかで素早い変速が印象的でした。通常のATに比べると、クリープが弱いのがやや気になりますが、慣れてしまえば問題のないレベルです。これで燃費もよいということになれば、まさに理想の変速機といえるかもしれません。
気になるのは、日本の変速機メーカーがDCTの開発で出遅れているように見えることです。DCTが手動変速機の機構をベースにしているのに対して、日本の大手変速機メーカーが、開発の主力をATやCVTに移していることも背景にあるでしょう。確かに日本のATは、世界でも最高水準に達しているといえます。しかし、量産化されてまだ4年のDSGが、すでにかなりの完成度に達していることを思えば、今のATの座も安泰とは言い切れません。日経Automotive Technologyは9月28日発売の「11月号」で、DCTの最新動向についての解説記事を掲載します。自動変速機の将来を考える材料にしていただければ幸いです。
